A dive into Norway's national soul

The Battle of Stiklestad on 29 July 1030 is considered a milestone for the introduction of Christianity in Norway. According to ‘Heimskringla’, Snorre Sturlason's royal sagas, a peasant army of more than 7000 men went into battle against Olav Haraldsson's force, which was half that size. Join us past Hell and to the scene of one of Norway's most famous battles.
According to the saga, Olav was first stabbed in the thigh by Torsten Knarresmed. Tore Hund then stabbed him in the belly with a spear, before he was finally stabbed in the neck by Kalv Arnesson. Although the saga was written some time after this bloody battle, Snorri's description bears a striking resemblance to, among other things, a motif from a portal in the now dilapidated Hemsedal Stave Church. After his death, King Olav was made a saint; Olav the Holy.
Join us on a journey deep into the soul of the Norwegian people, where Viking history is linked to Christianity - the cornerstone of the Norway we know today. Here you will find a replica of a longhouse constructed, equipped and furnished in a way that one assumes a longhouse from the transition between the Viking Age and the Middle Ages would have looked like
