Founded in 1644 with the discovery of copper in the surrounding mountains, the town quickly grew to become one of Norway's most important mining communities, with operations lasting over 300 years.
The town's iconic wooden buildings and unique colours contribute to the town's charm, and on our guided walk you'll learn more about the conservation work. Røros' well-preserved wooden buildings and mining heritage earned it a place on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980.
